What does a student learn in ?

Mastery Learning Standards
The required skills a student should display by the end of Grade 1.
Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning
  • Mathematical Thinking

The student actively participates in mathematics by analyzing problems, applying perseverance, and trying multiple approaches.

  • Modeling Real-World Situations

The student demonstrates understanding by representing real-world situations with mathematical models.

  • Complete Tasks with Fluency

The student completes tasks with fluency and demonstrates the use of efficient methods.

  • Engage in Discourse

The student engages in mathematical discourse with peers, asking and answering questions to clarify and build understanding.

  • Use Patterns and Structure

The student uses patterns and structure to make sense of and solve mathematical problems.

  • Assess Reasonableness

The student assesses the reasonableness of solutions, including rounding, estimation, and units, in context.

  • Apply Mathematics in Real-World Contexts

The student applies mathematics to real-world contexts to solve problems and to make decisions in and beyond the classroom.

K-8 mathematics content
  • Number Sense and Operations

The student applies grade-level number sense and operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and rational numbers.

  • Algebraic Reasoning

The student applies algebraic reasoning to identify, describe, and analyze patterns, expressions, and equations at the grade level.

  • Measurement

The student applies measurement to solve problems, including length, weight, time, and money at the grade level.

  • Geometric Reasoning

The student applies geometric reasoning to describe, classify, and measure two- and three-dimensional shapes.

  • Data Analysis and Probability

The student collects, organizes, and analyzes data using graphs, tables, and statistical measures appropriate to the grade level.

  • Financial Literacy

The student applies mathematical reasoning to manage personal financial decisions, including saving, spending, and credit at the grade level.
