  • The Practice of Science

The student practices science by asking testable questions, designing investigations, and analyzing evidence to develop explanations.

  • The Characteristics of Scientific Knowledge

The student understands how scientific knowledge is built, revised, and validated through evidence and peer review.

  • The Role of Theories, Laws, and Models

The student distinguishes between theories, laws, hypotheses, and models and uses them to make sense of the natural world.

  • Forms of Energy

The student understands the forms of energy, energy transfer, and the conservation of energy.

  • Forces and Motion

The student understands forces and motion and the relationships among them.

Assessments
The state tests students at this grade and subject take.
National Monitoring

NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress)

Federally administered sample-based assessment in reading, mathematics, science, and writing. NAEP results inform state-by-state comparisons rather than individual student or school accountability.

When given:
biennial in winter
Frequency:
every two years
